Aerification achieves three important objectives. It relieves soil compaction, it provides a method to improve the soil mixture around the highest part of a greens roots and it reduces thatch. Filling the aerification holes with sand "topdressing", improves drainage and resists soil compaction, as well as allows for oxygen to get to the roots and creates space for the downward growth of roots and then, new growth of healthy turf.
